Diana Vreeland, icona del fashion world, direttrice di Harper’s Bazaar e poi di Vogue America, special consultant per il  Metropolitan Museum of Art, ha segnato un’epoca modificando profondamente la cultura ed il linguaggio della moda. Genialità e rigore, estro e disciplina, consuetudine con il lusso e l’eleganza ma soprattutto la capacità ed il coraggio di vivere la vita fino in fondo. DV ha insegnato alle donne come la bellezza stia innanzitutto nella forza di essere sè stesse, lontano da canoni e stereotipi (spesso decisi da altri) e come la curiosità sia ingrediente fondamentale per qualunque mestiere creativo – ma soprattutto un ingrediente fondamentale per mantenersi giovane nello spirito. Ed anche come la creatività non sia in contraddizione con il rigore. Curiosa, intelligentissima, caustica, mai banale. Non a caso una icona, profondamente umana e vera, lontanissima da molti esempi iconici contemporanei costruiti a tavolino, vittime dell’ansia del consenso. DV poteva essere profondamente amata o detestata, ma sicuramente non lasciava indifferenti. E la capacità di non lasciare indifferenti non è da tutti.

What we say a woman who had spine. Diana Vreeland, an icon of the fashion world, editor of Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue America, special consultant to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, has signed profoundly  an era, changing the culture and the language of fashion. Brilliance and rigor, creativity and discipline, familiarity with the luxury and elegance but above all the ability and the courage to live life to the fullest. DV has taught women how beauty is first and foremost in strength to be themselves, away from rules and stereotypes (often decided by others) and that curiosity is a fundamental ingredient for any creative job – but also a key ingredient to stay young in spirit . As well as creativity is not in contradiction with rigor. Curious, intelligent, caustic, never banal. In fact, one icon, profoundly human and real, far away from many iconic examples contemporary  – built at desk, victims of consent anxiety. DV could be deeply loved or hated, but certainly did not leave us indifferent. And the ability to not leave us indifferent is not for everyone.
